i'm been tossing and turning mentally over this... it really gets me that they torpedo'd the public option, if he can't take control of the debate like FDR in the face of frothing loonies then the next election's gonna be painful

I'd be far more concerned if the GOP hadn't turned into the eat-their-own Democrats & if they weren't ruled by their own extreme fringe. The sanest Republican with mainstream ambitions is off to Beijing as Ambassador for Obama.

Plus, presuming any kind of economic recovery, Obama gets to play the "are you better off now than you were four years ago?" card very, very effectively.
