Just saw this John Cage video on Alex Ross's awesome blog. I love that it's basically a musical slapstick sequence, and, since Cage is performing it live in front of a game show audience of regular folks, people are laughing and enjoying it instead of sitting still in awed silence. Still unclear to me which reaction Cage would like better, but,

haha how funny, we actually went to the MACBA exhibit mentioned by ross when we were in barcelona. there were all these automatic music contraptions set up, making a godawful racket. i remember pushing izzy around and ranting to her about the atonal hootenanny. "to call this noise is an insult to noise!!" i had to leave after a short time there cos it was driving me crazy.

this clip is like a lot of cage's stuff-- funny idea but i never make it through actually listening to it.
