Tourist or Terrorist?

I just posted this in the photographers LJ community, but I'm also posting it here.

I was in downtown Chicago earlier today taking pictures for the monthly photo challenge.  It's unusual for me to be coming home with my photo gear in tow, so I took the opportunity to take some photographs of Union Station and other places I passed along the way.  ( Read more... )

I would suggest if you plan on taking more photos of the El or CTA, keep 2 copies of the photography policy with you. If someone challenges you and demands you have a permit, let them know that you are aware of the official policy and offer them a copy.

And keep one for yourself in case the police get involved. I have been taking photos at the Chicago El, on and off, for a few years and have only been challenged once. But I've kept in mind what my rights are, and remember, the CTA guy cannot "have you arrested." If you want to make an issue of it, and the police arrive, you can explain to them that you are within the CTA's own established guidelines for photos and show the officer your copy of the web page guidelines.
