Do you mean red squirrels? I've never heard of "tufted-ear squirrels" before, but the red squirrels where I'm from ahev huge ear tufts in comparison to other squirrels.

I think their common name here is tufted squirrels, but I couldn't remember that last night. Rheithrosciurus, tufted ground squirrel, and I think there are other varieties and names, like Abert squirrel or tassel-eared squirrel. We have squirrels we call red squirrels here, but they don't have the big ear tufts, and I don't remember their scientific name. They're just thugs, they drive out the smaller, nicer gray squirrels :(
