It's already the next day in my part of the world but for John it is still March 11th, the day he turns 50. He's sharing his birthday celebrations with us via pictures and videos, so I thought this would be a good time to post my selfies from the Birmingham panto back in January. The background of the first was a bit overlit due to sunshine, so the

Wow, that is quite a difference. It's not the color so much but the shaved look on top of the color.

Yes, I am not a fan of the short buzzcut. But I think the color could look nice with longer hair. I always liked men like Richard Gere, or Richard Dean Anderson, or my new crush Sean Pertwee. Very distinguished look. I certainly wouldn't mind! It's just a shock as it came so all of a sudden. We don't think he will keep it at the moment thought. But I wouldn't mind taking a picture with him like that!

Wow, he really looks different. That's the thing with TV, men have to look like they were 30 and women like they were 20, and posting pictures that show your natural look is considered brave. I'm glad John is comfortable with his look, as everyone should be.

Yeah, the first picture he posted a few days ago created quite some buzz among fans and also on internet pages where it made the news!
I'm not sure how he feels about it himself. We don't think he'll keep it, as he still has more Arrow filming to do and they hardly can explain how Malcolm Merlyn got grey overnight. I guess he just wanted to see what it looks like, and the 50th birthday seemed like a good date.
Sooner or later he won't have a choice, having dyed the hair for so long it is pretty destroyed. I'm sure we could get over the initial shock, especially when it is longer and looking better. It just was all of a sudden. I saw Richard Dean Anderson go grey over ten years of Stargate, and it was a natural process.

Yeah.

I don't know much about dyed hair, but if you cut it and regrow, is it still weaker?

It was the same with hugh Laurie in House - you barely notice it if it happens gradually and naturally.

I don't know much either but our neighbour also has dyed for decades and then from one day to the other sent white as she was told the hair cannot take it anymore. And so she did. Also my mother says you can get cancer from it? Don't know.

And you can have grey hair and still look young. Richard Gere, George Clooney anyone? Plus my newest crush, Sean Pertwee. He's over 50 but certainly doesn't act his age, from what I can see in pictures on Twitter, or all the action scenes he does. I love that!
I'm afraid John will dye it back though, for TV and upcoming convention appearances.
