does anyone know a violist (in Houston) capable of preparing a moderately difficult (7.5-minute) string quartet part in the next five days? i am at the point of, like, offering to pay money or perform (...) favors to any willing violist. you don't even need to be able.  you can suck.  unfortunately from a performer's perspective, sucking is worse ( Read more... )

Happy Birthday? I might be able to hook you up with a violist.

hmm I"m impressed you have 2 violinists and a cellist ... there's no 3rd violinist who can double? I have found that friendly conductors know players who can be asked on short notice. (For instance the pianist who learned Unentitled in 2 weeks -- I told her that gestures were more important to me under the circumstances than right notes, which was not only true but also allowed her to get a lot of notes right without inappropriate worry).

regarding me and 17tet quintet: yes. by 4/17 OK?

the only one who came close to agreeing was a violinist who doubled...

I sort-of-know Whitney Bullock at Rice (through the wonders of LiveJournal and my happening to be in Houston on the day of one of her recitals). Master's degree student in viola performance, and a really outstanding violist. Don't know if she'd say yes or not, but have you already asked her?
