zombie themed surprise b-day party

My friend's brother in law is getting a zombie-themed surprise party at the end of this month, and I need ideas!

I've never dressed as a zombie before and would love some links to the best makeup tips, and I also wanted to know if you had any great ideas for what kind of zombie I should be. (one friend suggested a 50's zombie with a beehive 'do but my hair isnt really long enough and I dont want to buy a wig).

You're the expert! Any tips, Cara? :)
