#01 - Walking
Despite the advancements in transportation, both Scar and Mei preferred walking; less hassle, more time together.
#02 - Waltz
Neither of them could waltz like the upper society of Amestris, but that was fine; they liked their own way of dancing.
#03 - Wishes
Mei would always stop them while they journeyed in order to make a wish by blowing at the dandelions in the fields; insisting that he make a wish too, Scar would make one as well, simply wishing that Mei’s wish would come true.
#04 - Wonder
She was always wondering-about people, about the science around her, about his past; Scar was sure that her small head was going to explode from it all some day, no pun intended.
#05 - Worry
Mei always worried about Scar and his determination for revenge while Scar found himself concerned about Mei following around a man who served as the right hand of God.
#06 - Whimsy
It was a whimsy of hers to picture a dashing dream man as her true man, spoiling her and sweeping her off her feet; the closest thing she got to a true love was jaded serial killer who would give his life for her, and she couldn’t be happier.
#07 - Wasteland
Scar hated when she asked him about Ishval and the dry wasteland it had become; he’d tell her that he’d bring her someday, but that day wasn’t today.
#08 - Whiskey and Rum
They hated alcohol, Scar’s religion forbidding it while Mei knew it only as a poison that people consumed for fun.
#09 - War
He had seen war, ripping though the sands and leaving a thriving nation dead; war was breathing down the neck of Xing, and Scar wanted to protect Mei from it as much as humanly possible.
#10 - Weddings
Like any little girl, Mei dreamed of a large, elaborate wedding where there would be dancing and then she’d be taken off by her new husband to her new life; years later, she found that she was perfectly content with marrying the man she loved quietly, witnessed by his simple fellow Ishvalans.
#11 - Birthday
When it was her birthday, the thought of when Scar’s birthday popped in her head and so she asked him about it, to which he ignored; for the next week, she acted like everyday was his birthday until he threatened to stop feeding her, to which she promptly stopped.
#12 - Blessing
He always regarded her as a nuisance, but knew, underneath, that she was this closest thing to a blessing from Ishvala that he was going to get.
#13 - Bias
There was certainly a bias towards Scar’s people in the Amestris markets, but Mei really didn’t care, for there was also a bias against her own.
#14 - Burning
When she was a teenaged girl, Mei found that hormones were terrible things, for she went to bed every night, those same hormones kept burning just thinking about him.
#15 - Breathing
After only three weeks of their consummation, Scar already knew the meaning of her breathing patterns: steady and calm meant she was fine, long and deep indicated she was nervous, and short and unsteady indicated that she wanted to be ‘alone’ with him.
#16 - Breaking
She could see her world breaking as her mother began to suspect that there was something going on between her and the desert man who she had met when she was a girl.
#17 - Belief
His people’s beliefs were alien and bizarre to the rest of the country of Amestris, but Mei didn’t mind them; they gave him his charm.
#18 - Balloon
Scar was perturbed that day when Mei saw the hot air balloons floating across the blue Amestris sky and was even more frustrated that he allowed himself to give in and let her watch them.
#19 - Balcony
Mei would often ramble about how her true love would climb her balcony back in Xing and take her away and make her his; Scar knew this was crap, since no man would climb a balcony just to marry a girl, but decided not to upset her.
#20 - Bane
In the beginning, she was a bane while he was on his mission; now, the thought of her being gone was inconceivable.
#21 - Quiet
Mei and the word ‘quiet’ were never one in the same, a love/hate concept that Scar was still struggling with.
#22 - Quirks
Her loudness, scientific observations, and girlish fantasies always vexed him while she found herself bothered by his silent composure, his fundamentalist convictions, and absence of most emotions; they wouldn’t have each any other way.
#23 - Question
She always had a question for him, which annoyed Scar to say the least, but he never failed to answer her.
#24 - Quarrel
They never truly fought, though there were disputes, but they never had any serious quarrels; they saw no reason to fight over something that intensely.
#25 - Quitting
Either would be lying to you if they said they never thought about quitting their goals, but there was an unspoken promise between them to never give up, so long as the other didn’t.
#26 - Jump
Mei liked jumping around, from wall to wall to building to building and had almost got in trouble for crashing into a market stand because of it; Scar, though thoroughly annoyed that she had brought so much attention, hid her behind him as the market clerk shouted in foreign tongues.
#27 - Jester
In Xing, there’d often be a court jester assigned to entertain Mei by making a fool of himself; when the ‘awkward years’ settled in, Mei felt like that fool in hoping that the scarred man she held so closely to her would return her feelings.
#28 - Jousting
When she was about sixteen, Mei would often listen to the young men determined to court her try to impress her by engaging in a battle of wordplay with each other; she’d secretly think about the scarred man and how comfortable and happy she was around him without even saying a word to each other.
#29 - Jewel
Jewels are colorful and rare rocks from the earth and are often quoted in metaphors; Mei noticed this when Scar talked of his homeland of Ishval, his ‘jewel of the desert’.
#30 - Just
The government of the country didn’t understand him or his goals, but Mei was able to see his just causes behind the madness of his actions.
#31 - Smirk
Scar never smirked-he never showed any emotion other than years old angst, but he’d hide a small smile when Mei would bombard questions to Yoki about absolutely nothing.
#32 - Sorrow
There was a deep sorrow lingering in Scar’s eyes and as much as Mei wanted to rid him of it, she knew that that was an impossibility.
#33 - Stupidity
Mei would flinch every time Scar spoke of the stupidity of people, of their willingness to defy God’s laws; she had learned long ago not to correct the firm and proud.
#34 - Serenade
Scar was not a man to sweep a woman off her feet, to say the least, but Mei couldn’t see him doing something that silly, and preferred that he didn’t.
#35 - Sarcasm
Scar had found no humor in sarcasm, and Mei couldn’t help but erupt in giggles when Yoki used it around him.
#36 - Sordid
They had met in the most sordid section of the city, this fact bothering Scar, which was why he secretly vowed to himself to keep an eye out for her.
#37 - Soliloquy
The closest he ever got to confessing his evolved feelings for her was after they had made love and he was musing aloud to himself near the window, how he felt guilty for allowing himself to have romantic feelings.
#38 - Sojourn
Years after he abandoned his mission against state alchemists, Scar began traveling the world to rediscover he and his religion, making only one stop-in Xing, where he was met by a very grown Mei.
#39 - Share
Mei would become very upset when Yoki refused to share his food with her; to keep her happy, Scar would give her some of his.
#40 - Solitary
Scar was a lone figure, accompanied only by his manservant but found himself quite the opposite of his preference once Mei and her small panda entered into his life.
#41 - Nowhere
She had been lost in what was quite literally nowhere in search for Amestris; she later learned that that nowhere was the shell of Scar’s home.
#42 - Neutral
Mei refused to speak of her opinion of Scar’s mission for two reasons: she didn’t want to upset him with her true feelings about it nor about her great passion for the state alchemist Edward Elric.
#43 - Nuance
He was a rather intelligent man, but was clueless when he failed to see the hints she dropped to him about her feelings; that is, until she acted on them.
#44 - Near
She always liked to be near him, whether it was walking through the streets or eating dinner with him; she loved feeling his presence.
#45 - Natural
There was something natural about their relationship, despite the great age difference; neither knew what it was nor cared.
#46 - Horizon
The first time they made love, it was in the afternoon while Mei’s mother was away; they woke up to the setting of the summer sun, watching the golden horizon fade into purples and blacks.
#47 - Valiant
When they had searched for Xiao Mei, Scar hadn’t been trying very hard; still, Mei though positive, and accredited him for trying valiantly.
#48 - Virtuous
Scar no longer considered himself worthy of Ishvala’s blessings, considering himself a murderer, blasphemer, and now, a rapist.
#49 - Victory
He began his mission looking for victory from killing those who had raped his people of their lives; he never found that, and Mei felt powerless to comfort him.
#50 - Defeat
Scar finally admitted defeat when he gave up his mission, but found it short lived once Mei reentered his life.
