We’re fine. I didn’t mean to alarm anyone; I just didn’t want people to get angry at me for not telling them things. My sister is fine. Bored. But fine. She’ll be good within a few days and fully healed in a month or so.

I guess I forgot to copy/paste to lj. I was in a car accident. I came out unharmed. My dad was in a car accident. He came out ( Read more... )

sound a little more bitchy why don't you.

aaah, how i miss you and your occasional bursts of anger! agree on salinger's use of italics so much. what a goddamn shame, for christsake, really.

Everybody cares about the prestige. I don’t care what the fuck you tell yourself to convince yourself you don’t give a shit about the school’s name. If you apply to an Ivy, or to MIT, or to Duke, you fucking care what people think.

not sure if i agree with that.

twas so good talking to you the other night, sorry my FUCKING COMPUTER FUCKING HATES ME and i got logged off and never able to return. i would have said good-bye.

See, I just don't understand why no one likes Jane Eyre. I thought it was amazing. It was well-written, engaging, only superficially esoteric (for people who can't get past the "old fashioned" language) and not impossible to delve into, and best of all, a love story written by a feminist ahead of her time. Sure, the part about St. John dragged, but on the whole it was such a composed and entertaining piece of literature!

And aw, I love Salinger's italics. Because the little pieces of emphasis he places on words are so right, they are exactly where people put them when they're actually speaking, it gives the characters more authentic voices.

Slaughterhouse Five didn't really do it for me. I thought the parts about the aliens were jarring and didn't jive with the rest of the book - I get the "deeper meanings" that they signify, but I thought the book didn't really gel, it didn't come together as profound for me. The climax that ended with the destruction of Dresden was exhilarating and horrifying, but. . .it just didn't feel cohesive ( ... )
