technically buddhist monastics aren't supposed to eat in the afternoon, so they call their evening meal "medicine" although they are well aware it is exactly like the lunch meal. no chanting involved though and you don't have to wait for everyone else to finish before you leave.

i'm also curious about chan talk. what's that all about? and also how does walk/sit work? is it just walking around and then taking a break?

walking meditation and sitting meditation.

chan talks were talks about buddhist meditation. they were all through a translator so it took twice as long. usually buddhist talk in circles about one point for an hour, so it wasn't the most thrilling.

the retreat in general was a really good experience though!
