On Tuesday I saw this woman swimming fast -- she was pulling 6-8 strokes per breath, vs the 'slowpoke' usual 2 strokes, so I upped my stroke count per breath to 4. Also I tried using more 'hip' in the stroke, basically thinking of it (like WC) as starting the motion from the hip and letting the arms just swing the follow through -- and it worked! I was much faster and less tired. But I also took in waaay more air than usual, so after just a couple laps I felt awful, compared to my usual stroke where I could do 20 laps before without feeling (that) bloated. I read something that you need to blow out as bubbles before your head comes above water to breathe -- I was making the mistake of breathing out and in again, during the brief interval of head above water -- but even if I correct that, not sure how to avoid taking in air...
Any tips?
