[ Round Two ] Challenge 06 | Results

Huge tie this week but it's manageable due to something I discussed with a participant. You'll understand once you see under the cut xD

We have a huge lack of banners :( In a few days when I have time, I'll be combing some of the entries to make banners. I'll be posting Challenge 01 banners courtesy of pixelwater.

FAVOURITE VOTES;
- Great colouring on Mimi and the use of textures was great by adding two of them together and placing them all in one area. The white brush is distracting though.
- A lovely combination of textures well suited to the base image - the browns of Mimi's hair and the pinks of her outfit seem to match the flowers.
- The image selection, and the texture chosen was good (:
- The icon is very 'warm' without being too over-the-top. The blue digivice in the center evens the colors out and the textures used make the icon have a very airy, spring-time sort of feel to it. The crop and subject placement also make for some good composition.

LESSER QUALITY VOTE;
- The amounting of sharpening could have been been lower. The manga image could use some more cleaning. The texture used for the background fits really nicely though.
- Although the colored manga is a nice subject, the overload of textures ruins the overall effect and makes the icon a bit too bland (too many warm colors). Maybe adding a tinge of some cooler colors (green, blue, etc.) through color balance or selective color would've helped.

FAVOURITE VOTES;
- Excellent colouring on the character. The details are there and excellent use of textures. Even if you used quite a lot, they seem well blended in together. The placement of the character is also nice.
- The use of the textures create a warm, yet bold coloring on the image making it stand out. The contrast between the image and the textures is well-executed.

LESSER QUALITY VOTE;
- The texture choice don't quite fit with this particular cap of Takato: These ones seem a bit dreamy (from the coloring and the swirls) for the look on his face. Also, the boy could do with a bit more contrast. Nice crop, though!

LESSER QUALITY VOTES;
- The cut-out of Angewoman seems too sharp and with the texture behind it, there's a huge contrast between them which isn't very appealing. If the image's edges were somehow blended in with the texture, it might have looked natural and flowing because it looks like two seperate pieces now.
- There is too much contrast in the image that makes the bottom look washed out. The placement of the light texture is also awkward and the orange texture along the bottom doesn't complement the image as well the blue one on top. However, the cropping of the image and the concept is unique.
- The image is too bright for the icon, maybe if they multiplied the layer, and erase some of the gray part would work well (:

FAVOURITE VOTES;- Although the desaturated image makes the icon look a little plain at first, the subtle colours of the textures and the brush come into play on the second glance ( ... )
