Ken lifted his head when he heard the front door click open. Daisuke walked in, looking strange in a white button down shirt and jacket. He smiled at Ken, who tried weakly to return the expression.
“You didn’t have to dress up,” Ken said. “No one’s going to see you.”
“Yeah, well…” The brunet rubbed the back of his head nervously. “I guess it just seemed appropriate.”
Ken looked down at Daisuke’s hands. He was holding a small bouquet of white flowers. Ken felt a pang of hurt.
Daisuke held the flowers out to him, but Ken shook his head. “You hold on to them for now.” He wondered how the boy had managed to carry them while riding on that insane motorbike of his. Ken was glad they were taking his car for once
“You left Veemon at home,” Ken observed. “Worrmon’s asleep. I didn’t want to put him through this again.”
Daisuke put a hand on Ken’s shoulder. “You sure you’re okay?”
Ken started to nod, then shook his head, dark wisps of hair swinging around his face. He wouldn’t lie to Daisuke. “No,” he admitted quietly. “I- thank you. Thank you for coming. You didn’t have to.”
Daisuke gave him a look. “Ken…”
He stood up. “Lets go. “
His heart grew heavier with every step they took to the car, until his vision grew blurry with tears.
“Ken…”
He looked away, shamefully. “Do you think he knows, Daisuke? Do you think he cares that I still visit him ever year? After what I did?”
The brunet pulled Ken around to face him. “Ken, he’s you’re brother. Of course he cares. Give me the keys.”
Daisuke drove them to the graveyard.
