A new laptop and digital camera... well, not quite yet

It is one of those things that stuff seems to happen all at once. So I find myself in the market for a new laptop (not a first person shooter gamer) and a new digital camera. And I am at square one for now. Anybody have a suggestion to help get me going on my search.

What are you looking for in a camera? A lot depends on what the most important features are to you (size, picture quality, point-and-shoot ease, optical zoom power, etc.). I like super zooming powers, a lot of manual control and great resolution, so I chose a digital SLR, but those will never fit nicely in a pocket. My mom, on the other hand, wants the tiniest camera possible and a minimum of fuss.

I also tend to prefer Canon and Nikon cameras, although with Nikon you do tend to pay more for the same features just because of the brand name.

I was thinking a pocketable camera. I'd love a DSLR, but I don't take enough pictures to justify it and if it was that big I'd be less likely to take it with me. I would like a decent optical zoom and the GPS tagging option on some seems interesting.

A Gal at the Angels Game saturday had an EOS 7d with the 55-250mm lens, she asked me to take a pic of her and her friend oh my goodness that was a sweet toy.

And I hate my HP laptop. I will never buy one again. I miss my Toshiba. It was a workhorse until it died. And then it died big. The HP has had so many stupid little problems, and their help was... well... condescending.

on laptops, K is pretty darn happy with her Acer(they used to make gateway laptops), for the price it is awesome.
