my mindset has always been neutral on the religious stance, i don't really think there's enough evidence to prove either way if god exists or not, so it's easier for me to be able to ignore that aspect of religion and focus more on the moral teachings and guides that people can benefit from it

and yeah you're kind of right about the whole luck/karma thing being moreso a way to govern our actions. Granted karma is a big part of Hinduism which is probably where it was able to find its roots and ground itself as a more serious thing to consider, and work its way into the general mindset of society (ie: the what goes around comes around concept).

I don't really consider it a flawed concept but i think when people focus too much on I'M DOING GOOD THINGS WHERE'S MY REWARD the whole idea of doing good things for the sake of doing them gets lost and yeah hsadf987rfhg arf arf arf

YES I AGREE also I'm sure you know I wasn't criticizing you I was just REMINDED by your mention of karma & whatnot ANYWAY

Religion is an easy thing to talk about, but the concepts of luck and karma are both ridiculous to me. They don't actually exist, they're just names we have given to certain event patterns yet most people seem to consider them actual occurrences. It's hard even for someone like me to not say stuff like "thank you GOD" when I'm really relieved or "good luck with that" obviously because they exist at least as shallow figures of speech but beyond that I just don't understand. & I'm not criticizing people who believe in luck and karma and whatnot because I put those things on the same level w/ religion INSOFAR AS people can gain comfort from believing in them.

& Brian Lee put it pretty well basically it's human nature to look for patterns even where they don't exist and also people put entirely too much value in coincidence aka what i said but in a neater package.

thx for listening spaghett

oh ye i know you werent criticizing me its coo MISS AMBS

yeah i can see both sides where luck would come off as ridiculous to some cause it really is a pattern of positive coincidences that leads to good results

but on the other side i can see where its appealing to think you have some sort of willful control over outcomes by wishing/praying for luck etc.

u got spooked
