Old Email

Nov 04, 2007 09:35

Going through old email is like going through old letters you had forgotten about.

All the fun, the pain, the heartaches, the stupidity... it comes rushing back like it had just happened. So many people who once meant something to me are now gone.

Memories fade and I move on for the next adventure.

memories, email

I am really bad about email.
Typically when I have important people I will give them their own little folder.
When they are leaving I delete it.
But I am foolish and romantic and nostalgic and well, just plain stupid. For some reason I always save it to disk before I delete it from the hard drive.
Almost like I think I should go back and open the wounds later.
I don't know why I do that.
I really should try to make cleaner breaks.

So am I. I'll constantly check for email, but won't usually respond for a while - like with your comment. :) Sometimes never as I'll forget to respond.

At least I'm able to open the emails and say I've learned a lot of lessons since then.

In the past, historians have had correspondence of various historical figures (politicians, writers, etc.) to study.

I wonder what will be left over from late 20th/21st century people.

Even though it's electronic, it's like farts in a windstorm, lost when a harddrive crashes, or whatever.

Or they'll be pouring over data CDs of saved emails, hoping for some insight on how or why an author wrote this or that, and instead just finding "Hey, look at this crazy video of a goofy kid swinging a lightsaber in a garage!"

Well aren't we just poetic as Shelley today?
