So that was an amazing day. Things I learned today:

- DC Metro stations are very dark. Seriously - VERY dark. However, their subway system (from what little I saw of it) beats the pants off of Boston's.

- Cops providing security at rallies are generally hostile. I was asking around to try to find a public bathroom, and eventually tried asking ( Read more... )

Interesting... yeah, I don't generally subscribe to the view that the police are The Enemy of Freedom or a Tool of the Fascist State... but there does seem to be something about protests and rallies that brings out the worst in them, it isn't just your one datapoint. It seems that by default, police officers and people who attend protests (at least, those attend A LOT of them) tend to view each other as natural enemies, which I don't think is a fair judgment on either side.

Also, yay for being unexpectedly sociable with attractive women! (I totally know how you feel.)

I don't generally think of police officers that way either, though I do view them with a degree of suspicion, having heard, read or seen enough instances of them overstepping reasonable boundaries. Some people are more than happy to abuse the power they're given, so I just try to be very polite and unassuming when dealing with them. This just came as a shock after being around so many happy polite people all day, and it was clear from his manner that he was trying to encourage me to leave.
