Being originally from California, let me say that you haven't seen ghetto until you've been to St. Louis. East St. Louis may be a life-changing (or ending) experience.
i've seen plenty of worse slums in my life...i'm not saying this is the most dismal place in the world but nothing describes ghetto more than your choice of church's chicken, popeye's chicken, KFC, and Los Amigos fried chicken all on the nearby intersection. This place defined that movie "Barber Shop."
with yearly trips to Japan and Las Vegas and daily boba-runs...i think it's pretty good. On the other hand, I still need to finish my degree and workign full-time while doing so is proving to be difficult.
