Sam’s been trapped in the cage, surrounded by pain and darkness, for centuries now. How will his soul ever survive, even tokenly intact, from that land of shadows?
Dean smells the sulfur, hears the screaming of the damned whenever he lets down his guard. Hell wrapped its fingers down so deeply in his soul that even an Angel of the Lord couldn’t rip it all out. He’s been Hell’s bitch before, it’s why he hates the deal with Crowley so damned much.
Sam needs him and he’s falling. God help them both, because no one else sure as shit can.
