Summary: Even tiny cuts can kill...

Dean looked at the phone lying cradled in his hand. God, he felt like an idiot. He wanted to call Sam so much it hurt. He’d even kill for chance to laugh at one of his lame assed jokes. Hell, he’d even listen to that crap he calls music if it meant the chance to spend one more minute with him.

He guessed it must be a little like what someone feels who’s lost an arm or leg. It’s long gone but it still manages to hurt like hell sometimes. Yeah, Sam’s his phantom limb. He’d sure as shit laugh his ass off if he ever got Dean to admit it.

Dean pocketed his useless phone, wondering if sleep would be any easier to come by tonight then it’d been the last few weeks. His bones ached with exhaustion, made him feel ninety instead of thirty one.

Yeah, he’d give anything just to hear Sam’s voice, his real one anyway. Dean glanced over at the other side of the room, shaken by the sight of the Sam-like thing sitting there so hard at work. Sighing tiredly he pushed up from the bed and walked toward the bathroom without a sound.
