You have to pay $1.99 for it but I thought I'd push the boat out and treat myself. You never know, the lure of exploding heads might get everyone else back on LJ.
The comment box didn't give me enough room for my unfounded speculation! So here goes. At first I was completely convinced he was as guilty as a very guilty thing. He came across as a man with a short fuse and a history of domestic violence. Then I thought about what it would be like growing up somewhere with a very high rate of violent crime. And what it would be like to be disabled and without the ability to run away or defend yourself. So maybe I judged him too harshly. I have been very put off by his behaviour in court, but I don't think you can judge someone for not displaying what you perceive to be the "proper" response to a particular situation (e.g. a lot of people judged Kate McCann for not behaving in the way they expected someone whose daughter had been kidnapped to behave).
So, in short, I don't know what happened. But I'm not as convinced of his guilt as I was initially.
Hmm, that's interesting. I have become *more* convinced he is guilty from his behaviour in court. Particularly the specific triggers that set off his crying and vomiting behaviour and the way he refuses to accept any kind of responsibility for anything.
Kate McCann - I never really got why people criticised her behaviour after Madeleine went missing. Fair enough that they criticised her for leaving the kids alone in the first place, but after the event, she did everything she could to help the investigation, raise awareness and look for Madeleine. I think some people would have been happier if she had fallen to pieces and stayed at home crying. For some reason when people show they are able to carry on after something terrible happens, people lose all sympathy for them. Sorry, going off at a ranting tangent!
I don't entirely get how there's a question, to be honest; we know, beyond any doubt, that he shot a gun through the door of the bathroom, several times, knowing that there was _someone_ in there. Since the door was closed at the time, it can't possibly have been self defence. If he saw her go in there, he knew it was her in there and not a burglar. If he didn't, there was no reason to believe anyone else was in the room at all, in which case he can only have been trying to shoot her. I hate to make the obvious pun, but I don't see that he has a leg to stand on.
