I’m a little late finishing this but here are highlights of what I read in 2014. Although I never posted my December reading (must do that still). This is an expanded version of something I posted on Tumblr.
Yes, I know it's a little harder for you to get some of these books. That's why I narrowed the list down a little further for you. I'll explain my logic here so you can get a better sense of why I recommended something or didn't recommend something. You can disagree with me if you like. =)
I'm not sure how much pure fantasy and science-fiction you like so I didn't recommend the Grisha trilogy or any of Beth Revis' books. But The Winner's Curse, although it is fantasy, isn't a normal fantasy. There's no magic at all, it's just in a made-up world with political intrigue between people in fictional countries. And it is SO devastatingly romantic, I'm sure you'd love it. Just be warned there are two sequels and they aren't out yet (the second book comes out in March, and the third in 2016). But if you wait a little while the first book will be out in paperback and thus cheaper.

Chapter One of The Winner's Curse is available online. But the story doesn't really start moving until further into the book.
