Just some favs: Boondock Saints What Dreams May Come Contact Mirrormask - awesome visuals. Just...awesome. Neil Gaiman + Dave McKean+ Jim Henson Co. = Much magic.
Rent the following series': Six Feet Under Deadwood (hear it's really good) 24 (which I also need to see) Doctor Who (the new one)
Hmm, nothing springs to mind at the moment, but I can tell you one to skip: Match Point. I just rented that "on demand" last night, and I gotta say I was disappointed. It moved way too slowly for me, and I really didn't sympathize with any of the characters. I haven't seen any other Woody Allen movies in my recollection, so maybe this is just how his films are, but I really wouldn't recommend that anyone pay money to watch that movie. (It had have some pretty steamy scenes, and Scarlett Johanssen is HOT, but they were so far between that even they aren't worth the rental fee.)
You know that movie, Ultraviolet? Yeah, that one is ok, I guess, nothing special though, and the [spoiler] twist is ... a touch overused. Although I wouldn't mind seeing Kate Beckinsdale and Milla Jovovich in a very special lesbian [spoiler] scene together. That would be special.
Oh, yeah, and the reason I mention Ultraviolet is because Equlibrium is by the same guy.
Uhm. Ok, yeah, two words:
Gun.
Kata.
Try to guess how those words work together.
This post has been completely pointless if you've seen the movie. But I didn't even know it existed until my brother made me go rent it, and there have been a few people I've talked to about it that didn't know about it.
Payback (so cool I named a KoL character "Mel Gibson in PAYBACK"
Envy (funny movie; "But where does it GO?")
Sergio Leone's "Man With No Name" trilogy (A Fistful of Dollars; For A Few Dollars More; The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly) If you've never appreciated a western before, these three will change your mind.
Frequency (It's a bit of a feel-good film. You'll still like it.)

So that's my recommendation.
