It had been a few weeks since she had spoken with Ether. Presumably, the man was happily reunited with his family, now, and saving poor souls, or whatever else he did these days. But she knew she couldn't leave things the way their last conversation ended. It would be irresponsible and weak-minded ( Read more... )

It is almost midday when the note reaches Ether. At the time, he is sitting on the rooftop of one of the numerous buildings in Clockwise, his frame limp and his eyes shut in what is more of a momentary rest after a long patrol than decent rest. The beep of the PINpoint is almost an offense to the tired android. His eyes are barely focused when he activates the device's holographic screen and peers at it.

The time he has is barely enough to borrow a hotel room to pull himself into a presentable condition. By the time the clock strikes 1 o'clock and he appears in front of Yuuko's shop, his cloak is still rather worn and dusty and his expression is definitely unfocused.

He stops in front of the gate and merely looks inside, as if still unsure that he should step beyond the barrier.

She starts as he stands outside, whatever magic protecting the shop notifying her of his arrival. She had been drifting off, thinking of things she shouldn't be thinking of, and moves to the front room. She won't go and collect him, though-- if he doesn't want to come in, he shouldn't. She won't force him.

Ether certainly doesn't enter the yard quickly. Their last meeting ended poorly... Even now, he remembers the cold, restrained manner and the sudden gap that appeared between them that day. He isn't sure why Yuuko invited him after that. He isn't very eager to know, either.

Still, he isn't the kind of person who would reject an invitation merely because of past mistakes.

The enormous sword in Ether's hand spins through the air and then breaks apart into numerous flickers of gold and crimson ash until only a silver chain remains on his wrist. A small cross with a teardrop crystal rings softly as it dangles on the chain, as if encouraging him to step forward.

Finally, Ether moves forward and steps into the shop's barrier.

She closes her eyes as he steps into her front yard, hands folded in her lap. She won't change what she thinks because he wants her to; what she has lived through made her into what she is now, and such things aren't easily changed.

The door to the shop is open. There are no city sounds anymore, now, just the sound of the wind and a bird or two.
