The 1921 England & Wales Census is now available! But it's not available on Ancestry UK.

According to Birmingham Live:=The 1921 England and Wales census records aren’t currently available on Ancestry because the National Archives has signed an exclusive deal with Findmypast

Thank you so much for the link to the article! I read the whole thing and found it fascinating, but the hook that got me to click on it was your tip that it included info on Dorothy Sayers!!! That was super interesting. The mention of "surplus women" made me think of Unnatural Death. (I think that's the one where one of the chapters begins with a quotation about the imbalance because of WWI. I'm not 100% sure, and now I want to read it again!)
