This is my second night up late trying to catch up with all of the Christmas stuff that needs to be done. I baked LOTS of chocolate chip cookies tonight. They're the household fave. More kitchen and puppy
So it looks like I'll finally be picking up puppy on Saturday. The chosen name is Wendell. His breeder describes him as a follower, a snuggle bum and the puppy who most easily makes himself right at home in new situations. And a piggy. Cabinet math
We played tetris this evening with cabinets. Remeasured and rethought space use. Think inches, not feet, in our microscopic kitchen. Where I thought I would have a 24 inch base cabinet only a 15 inch is going to fit. Better than what I have now so I guess I shouldn't complain. 39 inches of counter space I didn't have before. Happy Holiday Insanity
We are very good at chaos before the holidays. Almost 6 years ago it was the wonderful addition of Dane the day after Christmas. The chaos started at around 5:30 pm that Christmas Eve with a call from the social worker that we were to become instant parents. It was our 36 hour gestation period. Alternately could be titled,"Does my 73 year old mother look like a guy to you?"
I have a gripe. I'm sure I'm not alone in this and that other reasonably well educated people reading this might agree. Particularly those of us who make every attempt to use the English language as instructed, though many years ago.

Vacation and bocci
It seems that we picked the right week for vacation. Clear and in the 80s all week. The bay temp has been perfect. We went to Wildwood to play mini golf, Dane's vacation obscession, last night. Went to Duffer's, an icecreamarcademinigolf combo. Good minigolf for a 5yo and he did well. Amazing ice cream with desserts bigger than your head. ( Read more... ) -
Not the week we wanted to have

At dinner tonight I looked over to find Dane cutting a piece of shredded cheese into very tiny bits with his craft scissors.
Me: Dane, please stop and put the scissors down.
Dane: I'm doing science.

Rock on Daneman
Listening to XPN on the way home from dinner tonight they played Focus - Hocus Pocus from Supernatural Fairy Tales Vol 2. I turned it up for Dane thinking that he would appreciate the variety of yodels, whistles and prog rock guitar. I was correct. We danced and rocked out in the car and then in the driveway. Swim Class
Dane moved up to the next level in swim class a the Y. The first class of the new session was tonight. He amazes me. He doesn' t curl up in a C shape when floating on his back (most kids do). When he puts his mind to it and uses his strokes correctly he can really move in the water. They did backstroke tonight. The instructor, Liz, told us ( Read more... )
