professors make me sad because half of them have dreamed of becoming great artists but there are so many of them that nobody can stand head and shoulders above the rest so they teach more people to be like them but not better or different because that will cause them to question their true calling.
"why wasn't I called?"
I am no professor when I say that you have a loving eye when you shoot subjects that do not traditionally benefit from the gaze of a loving eye. Eyes traditionally love pictures that have been already loved, it's safer than choosing to love something not yet loved, because you have to make that connection yourself and you have to prove it, which you do, easily.
You know, they are a paper magazine first of all. I don't know if that's what you mean, or if you mean that you need a decent website...but they are the best paper magazine I've ever loved.
i say your professors and peers should probably shut the fuck up.
because your imagery is amazing. its like nothing ive ever seen, and i think you should probably just continue with your "crutch", because it works magnificently.
you have an amazing way of capturing strange candid reality and im in love with it.
Eh... gay, not gay... whatever. Sexuality is a continuum, neither binary, nor trinary... I mean, I'm "gay", but there've been a few chicks who could rev my engine... *shrug*
Strange subject matter... crutch... hmm... so is that a criticism of presentation? As if to say, "well, your photography sucks, but you pick neat subjects, and so we're really far more interested in the subjects than in the art of the photos?" That seems a funny criticism to me. How dare you photograph things that attract viewers' attention! Better to photograph green lawns or brick walls....
That is the thinking behind this school. I realize I have a long, long way to go, but on the other hand, when people are shooting brick walls (which, funny enough, a sepia-toned B&W image of just that won best in show for color here, yeah...), I think people here are more oriented with Commerical then Fine Art, and the few people who are oriented with Fine Art shoot sometimes wonderful, but mostly crappy photographs that maybe a breakthrough in the 1940s. It's a tricky, tricky situation.
my photo profs. tell me i am not conceptually oriented, and i will never make it in the new art world. maybe they have a point but i say hell no to conceptual bullshit. too pretentious for no reason.
That is pretentious sounding. Conceptually oriented, gah. Most people are conceptually oriented without even realizing they are, or what the definiation even is. Wait a second, what does that even meaaannn?
