damn you damn you. i will yank your ass into 8 gins and then you will tell me your color settings. then i can sleep well. maybe just a hint? at what it's through? like. is it 'variations'? or 'selective color'? or 'gradient mixer'? it doesn't keep me up at night. yet.
plus the top pic has eclipsed my pal amanda's similar attempts.
First, level/curves/bright&contrast your picture to be slightly overexposed, it takes a ton of trial and error, but the moment right before you begin to lose detail in the highlights is best.
Second, add this curve. I made it myself - but it needs to be modded to suit each picture, but in general, the perfect balance is there. Cross. I called it Cross Process, but it's mainly my own hybrid.
Third, adjust again with level/curves/bright&contrast to bring down the intensity.
Then I dodge & burn, maybe tweak color balance some more, and sometimes a black & white gradient map.
