Did you know?

2/3 of all the people in the world are vegetarians.

Update: Thats what the display at Fed Square said. But after some research by me I think this is bullshit.
Looks like its probably closer to about 15% of the worlds population.

I second the bullshit theory, considering that wikipedia claims that only 2.8% of Americans were vego in 2004, and only 31% of indians (indian indians, not american indians). It also describes vegetarianism as 'rare' in China... and those 3 countries are kinda big re population.

I could imagine a large chunk of Africans being too poor to afford meat, and therefore being de facto vegetarians.

I thought of that but there is only 1 billion africans. Out of a total of 6 billion people. Assuming 80% of them are vegetarian that would be 13% of the worlds population.

Yeah, I think the statistic is just plain wrong. That is, unless they use one of those dumb definitions of 'vegetarian' according to which eating fish is ok, or chicken, or anything not pork/beef. Then maybe, MAYBE, 2/3 are "vegetarian" - but I doubt it.
