I think at least a few members of the Posies wound up serving in the nineties Big Star "reunion" lineup behind Alex Chilton, but aside from that I don't recall a damn thing about their body of work.

The "Alternative" label to me just harkens back to the dismal days of the eighties and early nineties when rock radio was all about middle-aged baby boomers; until Lollapalooza a lot of the best rock acts in the country couldn't get played on mainstream radio because it was essentially reserved for people in their forties. Took for-fucking-ever for the Boomers' kids to get old enough to have a meaningful impact on the Biznis so finally they could wrench the market away from their elders' arthritic grip. And of course by then it was too late for a whole generation of brilliant musicians.
