Not so long ago I was doing experimental electronic music. It was fun, I played shows where everyone in the audience was in a band or was recording it and taking pictures for their zine. Once I played a 4am downtempo set in a foggy field in Delaware to a sleeping camp site. I was in a goth/industrial band and we played at shows with fetish acts. ( Read more... )

Lovely story. The 4 AM Downtempo/Sleeping camp sounds wonderful. (Sleeping at Rainbow Gatherings kinda of wonderful)

Leah and I used to live in a commercial building in Crownsville. Very good friends owned a restaurant downstairs, Sputnik Cafe. We built our mutual lives in the decade we lived there, both our us having children, building businesses, finding our careers, etc. That was Bill and Maria who know are the proprietors of Mr. Rain's Funhouse at the AVAM. We have never been to the museum and they just opened a few months ago. We can't wait to go see them and finally the museum. Sounds great.

Seems to me one way to know for sure you're doing the right work is when it creates/attracts/catalyzes unexpected and exciting situations. The bands I played in that seemed to generate high weirdness - like the one where a song about shoes inspired audience members to throw shoes, and roadies to throw 'em back, pinning down the musicians in a crossfire of footwear, or the band with a 65 year-old hunchback girl singer whose mere presence reliably provoked extreme reactions from people who only expect the expectable - remain my personal favorite items from my rezumay.
