"I am totally committed on all levels to Paulette. I felt so intimate with her when I was caring for her during her cancer treatments - to me, that's a stronger expression of love than whether I'm having anonymous sex with a man."
Am I the only one that finds this grossly tragic?! I realize that I do make a lot of jokes about my first boyfriend being gay and then going off and marrying some girl, but in the end I do acknowledge a certain tragedy to the situation. He is so very unhappy and now he twenty-seven, divorced and at a complete loss as to what to do with his life.
tragic only if you are a sentimentalist who is holding out for the perfect, soul-completing relationship with love, passion, romance, mutual respect, etc. most people are a little more jaded and take the good (companionship, loyalty) with the bad (husband placing his penis in strangers mouths). it's a devil's bargain, i think, but not tragic per se until one or both die.
tragic if you live in a rural area (which, apparently, few of them do, thank god) and you can't find part of what you need to be satisfied. or maybe that's not tragic? maybe that's just disappointing. i don't really know. i bet it sucks though.
