I read it yesterday. I didnt put it down until I finished. I am still not sure if I liked it. It took too long to get into. The beginning was dull, and almost a pain to read. But, once I got a few chapters in. I gained interest. By the end, I didn't want to put it down. It wasn't really a thriller or anything. it was another one of those... ( Read more... )

holden considers people who are grown up phonies...so anyone who acts older than him or anything is a phony...like holden is trying to cling onto his innocence, and not become jaded, so it matters to him that there are still adults out there that are "intelligent", he's basically scared of growing up. That's why he liked Arlie so much, Arlie is dead and will never grow up. and you know the part where he talks about the golden ring at the end? on the merry-go-round, that's basically him growing up. but keep in mind that he's in a mental instituition telling you the story and you have no idea if he is lying or not.

haha I'm creepy and reading you livejournal, I like reading what other people think about books.
