"May I sit here?"
Junho blinked, turning his attention to a tall boy standing in the aisle of the bus. He was pointing to the empty seat next to himself.
"Sure." Junho pulled his lips into a thin line.
The tall boy smiled, creases forming at the corner of his eyes. "Thanks."
Junho watched the boy for a moment before turning back to the window. He exhaled deeply, about to press 'Play' on his iPod when he felt someone poke him. He moved his finger away from the heat activated screen.
"I'm sorry but, do you have the time?"
"Uh yeah, "Junho looked at his iPod, "It's 1:45."
The other boy smiled again, the creases growing. "Thank you."
"Mm, no problem."
Junho quickly hit the play button on his iPod and looked out the window. 'This guy doesn't have a watch? Or a phone?'
It wasn't like it really bothered Junho, but he just wanted some music time before he had to go to class.
Junho could see his stop coming up so he grabbed his bags and turned to the boy next to him. He blinked, staring at the boy. His nose was hanging just over his scarf and his mouth was hidden. He had his arms crossed over his chest as he slept.
'Who falls asleep on a bus?'
The bus suddenly stopped, catching Junho's attention. He quickly stood up, trying to shuffle passed the other boy and drag his bag. The bus jerked and knocked Junho backwards, pushing his ass into the other boy's face.
He felt humiliated, not able to turn around until he felt two hands on his hips. He slowly turned around to see the other boy holding him steady, staring at his plump rear.
Junho cleared his throat and the other boy's eyes finally left his ass to look at his face.
“Excuse me.” Junho said, trying to wiggle away.
The other boy's hand opened as he released Junho, letting him reach the doors at the side of the bus. It was then that Junho realized he was still a stop away, so he stood, keeping his eyes down. He could feel the other boy staring at him and his heart sped up a bit.
Finally the driver announced his stop and Junho picked up his bags, squeezing the door handle and pushing his way out. He kept his eyes away from the bus windows as he threw his backpack over his shoulder. He blushed, rubbing his hands as they were exposed to the chilly almost winter air. He would need to bring his mittens tomorrow.
~
Taecyeon buried his nose under his thick, red scarf as he closed his eyes for a moment. It was getting chillier by the day and he wondered how many layers he'd have to pile on before winter actually came. He chuckled, imagining himself to look like a snowman in a thick, puffy coat over top of 13 sweaters. He pulled his phone from his pocket, glancing at the clock.
A few moments later, the bus pulled next to him. He hopped on, quickly flashing his pass before swiftly making it to the back of the bus. His favourite spot, he liked the feel when the large vehicle would turn corners, making the back end sway as if he was on a ride.
He settled himself in the corner, leaning his beanie covered forehead against the window. He fell asleep, opening his eyes when the bus jerked to a stop. His eyes met with a reddish brown haired boy as he skipped up the stairs and quickly walked to a seat. He kept his head down as Taecyeon noticed some of the fellow bus riders glare at him.
From what Taecyeon had guessed, the small boy had almost missed the bus, but the kind driver stopped for him anyways, which would have been why the vehicle jerked. A small smile played on his lips as he watched the other boy quickly fumble with his things before turning to face the window.
'So he takes this bus often.'
A couple minutes later, Taecyeon could see the short haired boy lip syncing, his head pointed at the window, his hand over his cheek as if he was hiding. He could see him lightly moving his head back and forth, easily being able to mistake it for the bus movement.
'I wonder what he's listening to.'
The other boy pulled on the rope, signaling it was his stop. Taecyeon listened to the voice overhead before the boy got up, standing at the doors. The bus stopped and let him out and Taecyeon watched him step out onto the sidewalk, playing with his iPod before the vehicle took off.
When he was out of sight, Taecyeon raised a brow, curving his lip. He seemed to have a sense of curiosity and interest in this person he had only seen twice now. There wasn't anything extremely attractive about the boy. He was a bit cute, for a boy. His hair was short but slightly curly, the colour a reddish brown; he wasn't sure if that was natural. The boy seemed short, though Taecyeon was a bit taller than more boys his age. So other than that, nothing really grabbed at his attention. And yet, he still thought of this boy.
~
Junho rubbed his hands together, hoping his mittens would create a warmer friction. He let out a hot breath, wiggling his rear on the cold bus seat. Apparently no one had been sitting there before him. He adjusting his headphones before pulling back the mitten part over his fingers. Half mitten, half gloves, Junho loved these.
He sniffled as he took his iPod out of his pocket, tapping the music player and scrolling down the playlist. He was about to tap on a song when a voice stopped him.
“Mind if I sit here?”
“Go ahead.” Junho said, not looking up as he tapped the screen.
He didn't look until the person sat down, a puffy coat slightly pressed into his personal space. He made a quick glance at the person before doing a double take.
'Again?' Junho raised a brow, staring at the other boy.
He shook his head before burying himself into his scarf and pulling the mitten covers back over his fingers. He folded his hands together and stared out the window.
'Hope he doesn't ask me the time.' He thought, suddenly feeling the need to hide his iPod.
He felt stupid once his music started playing. Obviously the other boy could see his headphones. His glasses frame hit the window as he pressed his head against it. He let the music play in his ears, the lyrics filling his head. His lips moved unconsciously as he mouthed the lyrics, no longer paying attention to the boy next to him, who was obviously staring.
He cringed when one of the songs he was beginning to dislike came on. He moved his head from the window, looking down at his iPod when something caught his eye. He slowly moved his eyes upward to the boy sitting next to him. He stared with wide eyes as they met the other boy's.
The tall boy was leaned back, almost as if he was trying to sneak a peek at him. Junho blinked as the other boy's eyes fell to the music player in his hand.
“Um...” The other boy started to say. “... What are you listening to?”
Junho's brows twitched. “Rain.”
The other boy nodded. “Ah.”
Junho looked at his lap and then to the tall boy, who was still staring at him. He decided then to get off at whatever stop was next.
As soon as the bus stopped, he stood up. “Excuse me.” He said, not having to worry about pressing his ass in the other boy's face again. He quickly pushed open the doors, keeping his back to the bus as it drove off.
'Now we want to make small talk?'
~
Taecyeon's throat itched, making him cough a bit. He must have been coming down with a cold. He frowned, pulling his scarf over his nose. He thought he had dressed warmer. He looked at his hands. 'Maybe I should wear gloves.' He wiggled his fingers. 'Or mittens... Only cute girls wear mittens.' He paused in his thought, suddenly thinking of the small boy on the bus. 'He was wearing mittens.' He chuckled, hiding his hands back into his pockets.
'He got off earlier yesterday...' This scene plagued Taecyeon's thoughts. The other boy's early departure was like a getaway. Did he make the small boy feel awkward when he asked him what he was listening to?
His lips twitched as he tried not to think about making and leaving an awkward impression. 'Would it be weird if I just introduced myself?'
The bus pulled up, putting his thoughts on hold as he pulled out his bus pass. When he looked up, he noticed the boy was sitting by himself again. A small shove from behind told him to move and when he looked up again, the small boy was looking at him. He felt nervous as they made eye contact but the other boy blinked then turned to look out the window.
As he approached the empty seat, he noticed a backpack there. Instead of moving on or asking to sit there, he stood there and stared at it until the small boy's voice woke him from his stupor.
“Did you want to sit there, or steal my bag?”
Taecyeon blinked before his eyes met the other boy's. “S-sit.”
The bag was lifted from the seat and Taecyeon sat down, feeling embarrassed. When his nerves finally calmed down, his thoughts raced around his head.
'Should I apologize for yesterday? Because I made him feel awkward? But what if that wasn't how he felt? Then I'd just feel stupid and too observant.'
“Are you okay..?”
The question was kind of whispered but Taecyeon heard it anyways. He looked at, the small boy staring at him with a brow raised.
“Huh?”
“You look... Like you're in pain.”
He thought for a moment before shaking his hand in front of his face. “No no, I'm not in pain.”
“Ah.” The small boy nodded. “You had a really scary look on your face.”
Taecyeon's lip twitched as he tried to imagine his scary face. The other boy had gone back to staring at the iPod in his lap. Taecyeon couldn't help but smile, feeling happy that the stranger had given him some kind of compassion. He wondered if he had stumbled or been beaten up what kind of compassion the small boy would give him.
“Excuse me.”
The voice interrupted his thoughts as the plump ass appeared in front of his face again. He blinked, almost amazed by the shape of it. He never thought a boy could have an ass this big and round before. He wondered if this boy was secretly a woman, hiding it well.
~
Junho bit his lip, dancing on the spot as he waited for the bus. He had lost his student ID and he had hoped it was on the bus. He didn't remember another time that he would've dropped it, not that he didn't flip his apartment upside down to check anyways.
He was almost too eager to push passed some older ladies as he got onto the bus. They scowled at him but he ignored them, asking the bus driver if he had seen any school IDs. The driver shook his head before telling him to move aside.
Junho pouted, clutching his bag tightly in his arms as if it was the next thing he was going to lose. He hugged it as he sat down, staring at the seat in front of him, not noticing the bus starting to move again.
He was dead if he didn't find it and he had prayed that the bus driver had found it. All hope was lost though as the careless driver gave him a bored look and sent him off.
'I'm in deep shit.' He whined, burying his face into his bag.
“Can I sit here, Lee Junho?”
Junho raised his head, looking at the owner of the voice with wide eyes. The person sat next to him, smiling with his creased cornered eyes.
“H-how did you know my name?”
“You dropped this yesterday.” The boy flashed Junho's ID.
Junho took in a large breath, forgetting to exhale when the other boy didn't hand over his ID.
“My name is OK Taecyeon. So hello, Lee Junho.”
“H-hi...” Junho raised a brow.
He placed the ID into Junho's begging hands.
“U-um, thank you.” His voice squeaked, causing Taecyeon to laugh.
“You're welcome.”
Junho gripped the plastic card tight. “I thought I was going to die...”
“It's that important?”
Junho looked at the tall boy. “Of course it is! It's my school ID!”
Taecyeon leaned back. “Okay okay!... What courses are you taking?”
The small boy played with the card in his hand. “Vocals.”
“You mean like singing?” Taecyeon asked.
“Yeah...”
“Cool, you going to become a singer?”
Junho glared, feeling like he was being mocked. He had had too many people laughing at him but he still kept his dream going.
“Whoa, I didn't mean that as a joke. I was serious... I just know a couple of guys who sing for fun.”
“O-oh...” Junho looked away, feeling a little embarrassed. “I'm not really sure where it's going to take me, so I'm taking it as it comes. I have no expectations.”
“Well that's one positive way to look at it.” Taecyeon smiled at him. “Have you tried out for any auditions yet? Plays? Stuff like that?”
Junho raised a brow.
“Sorry, I don't mean to pry... I was just... Curious.” The tall boy blushed.
“Heh, seems like it. Are you like this to everyone you first meet?”
“Well no. To be honest... To be creepy and honest, you had my interest when I first sat next to you... I... I saw you lip syncing and I wondered what you were listening to. I, uh, I'm sorry if you felt kind of awkward when I asked you.”
“It wasn't awkward. I just... Was caught a little off guard and the fact that I kept seeing you kind of threw me off too. Was that your way of getting close?”
“W-well I didn't know you always took this bus... The second time I saw you, I was already on and you were late.”
“Oh... That day.”
Taecyeon could see Junho's face grow sad and a little cold.
“Is... Everything okay?” The look the smaller boy gave him made his eyes widened. “I mean! You don't have to tell me... Sorry it was rude to ask, I'm a stranger... That's awkward. Oh god Taecyeon you're an idiot.” He started to mumble.
“I had a fight with my girlfriend.”
The tall boy blinked.
“She thought I was cheating on her and decided to corner me before I left for school. I was so determined on leaving she thought I was trying to hide something.”
Taecyeon whistled out of his ' o ' shaped lips. “I'm sorry to hear that... Are you two still..?”
“She got over it. She thinks my music is just a cover up for cheating... I spend a lot of time at a studio singing.”
“I'd... Like to hear you sing.”
Junho's eyes widened, looking around the bus then going back to the tall boy.
“N-not right here!” Taecyeon assured him. “But, whenever you're not busy.”
The small boy bit his lip. “I guess we could arrange something.”
The driver's voice interrupted their silent break and Junho cursed. “I missed my stop!”
“Ah! That's my fault, I'm sorry.”
“Don't worry about it!” Junho quickly got up, shuffling passed Taecyeon and standing at the doors. “I'll see you tomorrow?”
Taecyeon smiled. “Yeah, I'd like that.” He said before watching the smaller boy dart out of the bus and ran back.
~
Junho frowned, his eyes stinging against the cold wind, even his glasses weren't protecting them against the bitter breeze. He could feel tears roll down his cheeks, wiping them with his mitten before hissing at the pain on his cheek. He lightly dabbed his fleece mitt against his cold skin.
He was more than happy when the bus pulled up as he climbed in. He stared at the floor, about to get into his regular seat when someone else was already sitting there.
“Sorry, do you like the window? Wait, what happened to your face?”
Junho sat down in the aisle seat, letting his bag drop to the floor. He pulled off his mitten, grabbing a tissue and dabbing his eyes.
“Junho?”
“Hm? What is it?” He asked Taecyeon, finally looking at the older boy.
“What happened to your face? Your cheek is bruised.”
Junho sighed. “While I was running back to my stop, I slipped and fell on some ice and...”
Taecyeon cringed. “Ouch... Did you... Put ice on it when you got to school? It will swell if you don't.”
“I did... As much as I didn't want to.”
“Let me see.” The tall boy said, pulling Junho's face before he had time to reply. He examined the horrible coloured mark on the small boy's face. “That's going to be ugly for at least a week.”
“How do you know? Are you some kind of doctor?”
“I'm in training.”
Junho blinked, his words only meant to be a joke. “Dr. OK.” He chuckled, cringing a bit as his cheek hurt.
“Yeah yeah, shut up. Are you going to keep your name Lee Junho when you finally make it big, or are you going to make up some stage name?”
Junho blushed, his eyes leaving the taller boy's. “I haven't thought about that.”
Taecyeon released his chin. “You never thought about it? Even as a joke?”
The smaller boy shook his head.
“Oh... Well Lee Junho is a fine name. You can debut with that.”
“Hey Taecyeon? Are you... Free tomorrow?”
The tall boy thought for a moment. “I can take the day off, no big deal.”
“I can... Sing for you tomorrow.”
Taecyeon smiled. “Really? Okay, I'll be there!”
Junho blushed again, his eyes falling to his lap. “Meet me here, same time I guess.” He didn't really know when the buses he took ran at other times.
“Okay, I will.”
The small boy stood, pushing open the door and stepping onto the sidewalk. For the first time, he turned at waved at his friend.
~
Taecyeon adjusted his scarf, feeling as if it was choking him. He felt butterflies in his stomach, wondering when he had eaten them. Why was he so nervous? He almost didn't want to step onto the bus as it pulled up. He flashed his pass anyways, smiling creeping onto his lips as a familiar brown haired boy shyly waved at him. The butterflies seemed to fly away then as he sat down.
“Hi.” Junho said, a smile on his bruise despite the big bad ugly bruise on his cheek.
Taecyeon grinned. “Hi.”
The conversation kind of went quiet after that as they both tried not to look at each other.
“T-this is the spot.” Junho finally said, standing up rather hastily.
Taecyeon stood, towering over the small boy. Junho blinked up at him, causing him to smile.
“How old are you?” Junho asked, stepped behind him.
“Twenty-two, and you?”
The small boy blinked, almost feeling ashamed of his age. “T-twenty.”
“Oh, you're younger than me.”
“Only by two years!”
Taecyeon patted Junho on the head. “I know, don't be insulted.”
He yawned as he followed the small boy to their destination. He was so excited that he hadn't slept all night, he must have eaten the butterflies then. He wasn't even sure if Junho was any good but he had this confidence in the younger boy. He thought somewhere behind that cute face and plump butt was an even better voice.
He didn't notice until Junho stopped, turning to glance at him. “I-I've never really had an audience before so...”
“I have faith in you Junho, I know you're great.”
He watched the smaller boy swallow before turning back to open the door. The warmth of the studio brushed Taecyeon's cheeks, welcoming him inside.
“Ah Junho, is it that time again?” A man from behind a desk asked.
Junho smiled and nodded.
“Oh, you've brought a friend. You're so confident.” The man laughed, nodding to Taecyeon. “This boy is a destined singer. You keep close, he'll be famous someday.”
“Yaah hyuuuung!” Junho whined, blushing at the compliments.
Taecyeon couldn't help but chuckle and the smaller boy shot him a glare. “I told you Junho, I have faith.”
They stepped inside a small room. In the front was a tiny stage with a microphone on a stand and in the back were a row of seats.
Junho instructed Taecyeon to take one of those seats as he hopped up on stage, adjusting the mic to his smaller stature. He tapped it, the sound echoing the small room. Taecyeon waited, watching Junho inhale.
“Uh could you, maybe, close your eyes.”
“Close my eyes? Junho, if you're going to be famous you have to sing in front of thousands.”
The younger boy swallowed. “I know, but right now it's only for you so... Could you..?”
Taecyeon smiled. 'Only for you, eh?' “Alright, I'll close my eyes.”
He heard the sound of the mic being adjusted again and the sound of a breath being taken before velvet drifted into his ears. He tensed as the smooth voice surrounded him, covering his body in goosebumps. He had guessed Junho's voice was amazing but he had never guessed it would have been this exhilarating. Taecyeon felt his heart beat quicken as Junho's voice got louder and the music softly playing in his ears was soon gone and all that was left was silk. His goosebumps covered goosebumps as the smaller boy sang out in a higher note, almost lifting him out of the chair. He sneakily opened his eyes, fascinated at the appearance of Junho when he was in mid note. Not only did this boy have the looks and the voice of a popstar, his attitude when he sang would mesmerize fangirls for years.
When Junho came down from the long, high note, he suddenly stopped as he noticed Taecyeon staring at him with wide eyed and an even wider mouth.
“Junho!” The older boy shot from his chair. “You're amazing!”
Junho tensed as Taecyeon shook him.
“I knew you'd be good but this..! This is like... Eating chocolate mousse cake by surprise! The creamy smooth mousse filling your mouth like amazing sex! Except with your voice and my ears!”
The smaller boy blushed. “S-so my voice is like amazing sex?”
Taecyeon laughed, feeling like he had used the wrong thing to say. “It's amazing Junho. That's all you need to know.”
“W-well thanks.”
“Come on! I'll buy you dinner! You deserve it.”
“I haven't done anything.”
“You impressed me... That... Actually takes a lot.”
Junho frowned with wide eyes.
“Don't look at me like that. I told you I had faith, or else I wouldn't have mentioned wanting to hear you sing.”
“That makes me feel loads better.”
Taecyeon sighed, throwing his arm around the smaller boy's shoulder. “Trust me Junho, you're going to make it big.”
~
“You have mail.” Said a high-pitched voice on Taecyeon's computer. An envelope flew up with wings, trying to grab his attention.
He clicked, opening the message.
“To Dr. OK (Haha, I cannot get used to this)
How have you been doing? Are the patients treating you well? Are you making loads of money to spend on your girlfriend? Haha. It has been a while since I talked to you last. I am sorry. It has been really busy here. My manager always keeps me on my feet so I am writing this quickly because I know he will come in at any second and tell me that we have another shoot to go to, or anything stage for me to perform on. I am really happy that I get to be this busy because I know it is because people like my voice. I did not believe that first time when you jumped from your seat and told me how amazing I was. You said it was like amazing sex, do you remember? Haha. You scared me when you suddenly shook me, I thought you had gone crazy because my voice was horrible. I never really got to thank you properly for pushing me into that audition room at JYP. Without you, I would have never had the courage to go through with it. Although you still had to push me in the door. Haha. It's been a lot of hard work and I barely have time to sleep. Fans are crazy. They send me flowers and food, even a laptop and other really expensive things. Do you get fans like that? I am sure you do, you are a good looking guy :P I hope you are doing well Taecyeon. I kind of miss being home... Catching the bus... And seeing you there smiling and waving at me. Have fun in your doctorly duties old man.
With love, Lee Junho."
Taecyeon bit his lip, slightly glaring at the screen as he looked at the photo attached to the email. It was of Junho with his manager, he was smiling, his eyes crescent moons. His hair was a little shorter than it had been the last time Taecyeon had seen him but the look worked. Then again, he wouldn't what look wouldn't work on the popstar.
He opened up a new message, typing things like; 'No, I don't have a girlfriend.' and 'Yes, I do remember saying your voice was like amazing sex. It still is now.'
He was quite proud of Junho. He smiled, remembering how he literally had to push the younger boy into the audition room because Junho was clinging to the doorway to prevent himself from going in. He had insisted that it was a mistake and that he needed another year to prepare.
Of course Taecyeon didn't believe this, because he knew, Junho's voice was more than ready to be heard by millions of fans across the world.
He hit send on his screen and leaned back into his chair. He had a moments rest before his nurse knocked on his door, telling him a patient was ready.
~
Taecyeon rubbed his neck, smirking and shaking his head. He was a doctor but yet still didn't own a fancy car. He preferred to walk to work everyday. It was only ten minutes.
It was a month since he had last heard from Junho, the rising idol. He was a bit sad, but he knew he couldn't be greedy and ask for even a moment of the younger boy's time because every second was precious for Junho.
He shivered, feeling the cold winter air tickle his neck as he stepped outside. He stopped for a moment, watching his breath appear into a cloud in the chilly air. It was about that time...
A noise from his right startled him, causing him to jump. His eyes widened. “J-Junho?!”
The small boy smiled. A smile Taecyeon could see with a clear sigh of fatigue and pain.
“Hey Dr. Taec.”
“I-I didn't know you'd be coming home.”
“I didn't either.” The popstar said, walking closer to Taecyeon. His scarf hid his mouth, his outfit looked unsuitable for the changing weather. Hi tops, tight jeans, pleather jacket and a hoodie underneath. The only thing that was probably keeping him warm, other than his scarf, would have been the visored beanie on his head.
“Junho... You didn't...”
“No, I didn't run away.” Junho suddenly stopped in front of Taecyeon, looking up at him with sad eyes. He stood on his toes, wrapping his arms around the taller boy's neck and burying his face in his chest. “I just wanted to come home.”
Taecyeon dropped his briefcase, pulling Junho close and hugging him. He lightly stroked the younger boy's head, feeling him snuggle closer. “Why don't we go get some coffee?”
“I don't want to go out.”
The older boy pressed his lips tightly together. 'Right, you're a popstar, everyone would recognize you.' “Then come to my place.”
Junho pulled away slightly, his eyes a little wider. “Okay.”
He slumped in the doorway, following after Taecyeon as they walked into the apartment. It wasn't as fancy as his own, being a one-man idol, but it was still nice. It was a rich doctor's pad.
He held the mug in his hands, the hot liquid warming up his skin. He was able to drink half of it before his eyelids felt a little heavy. He slowly started to move forward and Taecyeon snatched the mug from his hands.
“Hm?” Junho mumbled, his tired eyes looking down at the arm around his waist.
“Come on, let's just go to bed.”
Taecyeon pulled the smaller boy off the couch, not being able to stand on his own two feet anymore. “I didn't realize that being an idol means you never got any sleep. If I knew that, I wouldn't have suggested it.”
“Don't be ridiculous. You made the best decision of my life.” Junho said as the older boy softly dropped him onto the bed.
Taecyeon crawled in next to him, pulling the covers up and under the smaller boy's neck. As soon as he laid down, Junho wiggled his way closer, snuggling against his chest.
“Taecyeon...”
“Hm?” He mumbled, closing his eyes.
He felt something soft against his cheek.
“I love you.”
His heart raced as he swallowed, rubbing Junho's back as he pulled the smaller boy closer. “I love you too.”
