As a Central Pennsylvanian, I have a pesky habit of dropping "to be" from my sentences. A popular example of this is, instead of saying "The car needs to be washed" I would say, "The car needs washed

I dodn't know there was anything wrong with "the car needs washed". It seems to be a Scottish idiom as well as a Pennsylvanian one. Just as well I don't have to worry about word counts any more.

I see nothing wrong with it either. It communicates the idea, but with fewer words. If nothing else, we are quick, efficient people.
