Awww. =( Poor Gippal. I like your setup and the colors that you use -- usually people use white to contrast with Baralai's skin, but now you use it in a different sense, to convey sickness or death. Nice use of color.
The spikes tickling his nose -- I love it! I know just how that feels.
Also, I love fics (even small ones) that deal with that interim time after they were all shot. Great work!
I intended to comment over at FFN but it would not co-operate this morning.
This is a beautiful fragment, capturing so much in so few words. The poignancy of Baralai's reactions tells us volumes about his devotion to the Al Bhed. The only problem I have is the inability to believe the Baralai's duties were so pressing as to force him to leave Gippal right away. Still, their relationship is delicately and exquisitely conveyed. Lovely!
Although this is not in the story (because this kind of information would only throw off the flow) Baralai has waited a while, and before that was healing himself. So no small amount of time has passed. But remember that he went to Seymour asking to be hidden, and staying with Gippal would be, to say the least, not very stealthy. I think that as much as Baralai may love/care about Gippal, his duties will always be extremely important, too. That's not to say they come first, but he needs to know the truth about what's going on.
Ahem. Sorry for that long and wordy explanation. Hopefully you understand better why Baralai is leaving, though.
However! I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for commenting.
Thank you. I am so haphazard about canon I miss implications I should have understood. I appreciate people like you (and a few others) who will take the time to remind and inform me. I enjoy stories which explore the emotional as well as the physical relationship between the two lads. ;)
