I cannot fucking believe this lady I bought food from.

So, our electric is out in the house. ONLY in the laundry room.

Fail.

So we went on campus to do our laundry tonight (we were way overdue) after I got out of American Literature, and while we were waiting for the clothes to dry we bumbled over to the cafe in the commons to grab something to eat.

I didn't have enough cash on me to buy my wrap & fries, so I used my debit card, which unfortunately still has my legal name on it (Samantha __________). The lady at the cash register started to check me out and then looked down at my card and said in a really sneering, nasty tone of voice, "Samantha, huh?"

I just sort of made a :/ face and went "yeah", assuming that she must have thought I stole the card or something. I didn't want to get into it with her and so I took the paper where I filled out what I wanted in my wrap so I could bring it to the sandwich makers after I signed my receipt.

I must have forgotten to pick my debit card again so when I was across the room she shouted, "SAMANTHAAAA?" *REALLY* loudly in front of an ENTIRE crowd of people, including people I know and who know my name is Sam. They all turned and looked, smiling -- some laughing, including other workers there. I couldn't believe it. I walked over and picked it up from her TOTALLY humiliated.

If she thought I'd stolen the card the correct thing to do would have been to quietly and discreetly ask for my ID. That's all. Not this fucking behavior bordering on harassment. I went up a little while later to another woman working there and asked if there was a manager on duty -- she said she was one. I told her what happened and she said that while she could say something to her, that the lady that gave me a problem was a manager too and that they were on the same level. She told me to fill out a response card and hand it to her and to come back tomorrow afternoon and ask for Ryan, the district manager, who would be able to help me more.

I'm just so infuriated and upset. One of the people in the crowd that was there unfortunately was a renowned gossiper and I just don't know what to do. I'm even upset that I'm going to have to go to someone ELSE and have to tell them I'm transgender in order to sort this whole thing out, but I just feel like I can't let her get away with it. It was COMPLETELY out of line and was not at ALL proper behavior for someone working with customers.

trans stuff
