It pours... Quite literally!
About an hour ago a tree (or as it turns out the top half of a tree and some big branches on the way down) fell onto the power line that connects to our house. We didn't lose power because instead of the line snapping, it yanked about 4-5 feet of cabling (along with parts of the house) out of the wall.
The scary thing is that now the cables are all tangled up in dangling limbs and tree parts, and it is still raining very hard! I managed to grab a couple of quick photos while David was looking up the number to the house insurance and the power company. They aren't great since as I mentioned it was pouring rain on me, but I wanted to have something in case the power company beats the insurance company to the house. I am more than a little concerned that there could at any moment be live wires touching water on the driveway - but supposedly they are on their way even as I write this.
In the picture of the limbs, that's my neighbor's house past all the trees, and I think you can see the tangled mess of lines in the branches if you look. In the distance shot of that picture, you can see the big puddle of water and a big branch just below the lines (scary!)
In the close up of my house where the wire is yanked out, as a matter of reference, each of the panel boards of my house is about a foot wide, so it's about a four foot section and about 5 feet of wire that got pulled apart. The big dangly board (that is hanging treacherously over a car that can't be moved because of the power lines being down behind it) is about 8 feet in length.
When the rain lets up, I will try to get some better pictures - but any desire I had for a nap went the way of the dodo with the adrenaline rush that came with having part of the house ripped apart!
