So here's the skinny for all those who don't yet know. Ellen and I are heading to Paris to get TEFL certification, and then (hopefully) teach English somewhere. We'll be leaving this Friday (10/26), flying into Brussels, and backpacking around for 16 days while we meander toward our school outside of Paris. The TEFL course will last four weeks, and ( Read more... )

Hey. well... I didn't know! that sounds awesome. Keep posting - as you see with Jay, we love reading about awesome adventures and their effects on your life. As cheesy as it is, I heart observing the symbiosis relationship between the traveler and the travel ( ... )

A bandanna! I knew I was forgetting something!

I will keep posting. My adventures might not be as glamorous as Jay and Forrest's--at least not until after Paris--but travel is travel. Thanks for the advice too. I actually got the backpack for a meager $140, not the MSRP. I packed it full to the gills yesterday (about 50lbs), and took a hike through an empty irrigation ditch. Man that pack is comfy, even when it weighs as much as a boat anchor.

At the end of Jay's LJ post yesterday, him mom wrote that Boulder is exactly the same; I'm so out of this bitch.

re: make sure you pack it with the right layout: http://www.rei.com/learn/Camping/rei/learn/camp/packing2f

... that's just one. but man, it CAN make a difference. also, making sure the cinch straps are all good with weight on the hips.

yeah, I mean, that's a AWESOME brand of pack. Osprey is also a glorious brand. A good pack makes a huge difference, specially if you can get it cheaper than MSRP.

Also: every adventure is a awesome adventure. =)

ciao!

Dana (and Ellen), that's sweet. I'm excited for you guys. I was considering doing the TEFL course for a while - you'll have to let me know how it goes. For my part, I'm unexpectedly coming home. Well, where by 'home' I mean Portland, which is certainly closer than here. I should be off the Ice by around Thanksgivingtime. Sorry we'll miss each other by a breath, but I suspect we'll run into each other somewhere in the world at some point. Meanwhile, I'll have to live vicariously through your El Jay. I think mine is about to go on a long hiatus ( ... )
