Some of you might know that I've been pretty upset the past couple of days over the Kansas School Board bowing down to conservative demands for "opt-in" (meaning that parents would sign forms to allow their children sexual education) as opposed to the mandatory sexual education we've had in the past, which included an "opt-out" option for parents

You've got to give kids a fighting chance. I talked with my little sister today and she pointed out that that not only is just sex covered in sex ed - but rape, molestation, rape drugs, alcohol, sexual harrassment - its more than just the act of sex itself, its also about protecting kids from predators and the tools they use to lure them in, even when those predators are other kids their age (which those do exist).
One of my friends who was molested as a kid said, "I didnt know it was wrong, it just *felt* wrong - it wasn't until I watched an educational program in school that I knew for sure that it WAS wrong and that something could be done about it."
