A lectin - , which is the sugar-binding protein found in a variety of plants - naturally found in bananas, called banlec, has been shown to bind on the sugar-rich HIV-1 envelope and halt its chain reaction that leads to infection. Doctors are now reaching ways to develop a microbicide that can be applied to the skin to help prevent HIV infections.

Epic and awesome. *makes mental note to eat more bananas*
I truly hope that this makes anti-HIV medication that much more potent and, with luck, helps stop the spread of it completely in time. :3
