I know nothing about cameras. Who is telling you these lies?

However.

SLR or digital SLR?
Does he have any existing lenses that he'd want to use with it?
Does size matter? If so, does he like em big or small? (*snicker*)
Does he know lots about photography in general, or might want one that is more forgiving?

He's looking for Digital SLR. Currently owns a 35mm - not sure what kind it is though. I'll ask... as far as I am concerned he's feeling around for something he can get approx. $1000. As far as skill is concerned, well, he's familiar with the basics, but admits he needs to do a bit more research on the lenses he wants and whether or not he might deal with a slower rate time (especially in further focused picture captures). Size wise he's going contrary to his norm and looking for something smaller to mid sized. heheheh! I know bubkus about cameras myself. I studied in Video anyway! :)

Depending on his current lenses, here are his likely options:

-Canon Digital Rebel 350D (new 400D coming out soon, not sure on price)
-Nikon D50
-Sony a100 (uses Minolta lens mount)
-Pentax K100D

All are beginner DSLRs, so more forgiving, with smaller form factors.
