Onoz!

So I was doing a rant and I looked up Tom Henning Ovrebo and that led me to look at the list of refs approved for WC2010 and OMG.  I am older than every single referee on the list except for two.  I don't feel that musty and uncool.  I don't even think I look that uncool.  However, I'm not sure if it is still cool to use the word "cool" when ( Read more... )

When my jaw was sore like I'd been giving blowjobs all day (and I hadn't), my dentist told me to stop chewing gum. I thought he was joking, and complained about it again the next time I saw him. Once we got it sorted out, my jaw started feeling better. Do you chew gum all the time?

When do they make referees retire? I actually think I'm there already. Speaking of being old and uncool (which I actually feel, more and more often).

ALSO. The reason I came here is to share some Loooca, cos I'm sick of him looking at me.

ETA: OMG OMR ICON. Nevermind Loooca, that's why I'm here -- this post was calling to me.

Awwww, Loooca! So pretty in his candids and so ridiculous when he models.

I'm pretty sure my jaw is sore because I've been doing a lot of clenching and grinding. I have a thing to wear at night to keep me from turning my teeth into powder, but it doesn't keep me from clenching.

UEFA's mandatory retirement age for elite refs is 45, apparently because there were too many flabby and unfit 50-yr-old refs in the 1990s, but there seems to be a fair amount of debate about whether it should be raised again, or whether it should be based on fitness tests rather than using age as a proxy for fitness. I sound like such an expert, but it's really just that I can put together a pretty mean search request.

I love OMR's perma-crank. I'm going to miss the crusty old bastard.

Hey, I have one of those things, too! I guess I should count myself lucky I've not got the jaw pain to go with the grinding -- my main problem was with the grinding-teeth-to-dust, and that's been effectively halted. I actually think I may have stopped grinding, but I'm afraid to stop wearing the guard.

So they never have had fitness tests? Or the fitness tests they have are so limited they allow through a lot of flabby and unfit refs? The assumption that by setting an age limit, they'd eliminate all the fat and unfit is so arbitrary I'm sort of surprised no one (Collina) sued.

Me too. I wish I'd started loving him before the middle of last season, I missed out on so much. *sniffle* (Were you @ ASA when he was throwing melons? You've see that, right?)

I think FIGC raised the age to 46 to give Collina one more year, but I'm not sure if that still holds. They have to have fitness tests, right? Maybe they just want refs to be more fit now than whatever the standard used to be.

Was that the clip from TV where they set up a melon stand across his driveway? Man I need to learn Italian!
