i've always felt your paintings deserved a better arena than the "big art show" things. i hope you get into galleries! don't ever stop applying. we had a lot of workshops this year about applying to galleries and applying for grants and stuff like that, and they said that statistically women are more likely to stop trying to get grants after their first rejection, so i am encouraging you now to keep your chin up and going forward even if you get rejection letters.
i think there is an audience for your stuff today - there's a huge demand out there for art that is sort of similarly styled to your work - and that a change of venue will really help you find it.
wow, those workshops sound amazing. sadly, as a graphic design major i didn't really get offered anything like that. i'm gonna have to persue my own investigations.
thanks for the encouragment and advice mags, it that really means a lot to me :)
well, by "workshop" i mean "had a teacher in the department write up something in word, print it and hand it out, and give a powerpoint presentation". and we did have one gallery director come in and talk to us a few weeks ago, which was awesome of him. if i come across any of the handout material (i just moved the entire contents of my studio into my apartment/car so everything is a mess) do you want me to make copies for you? it could be helpful. like, the kinds of stuff you need to put into a portfolio for an unsolicited gallery application vs. a solicited one, blah blah.
honestly it seemed like a really terrifying endeavor to me until recently. now i am cautiously optimistic. haha.
I'm with Maggie on this one. Your art is fine art, which is different than community art gatherings and shows. I know what it means to you, so put yourself out there. We learn the best through or experiences.
thanks :) -- yeah, seeing as the mural is doomed to be graffitied over, i definitly think i will do something else with the piece -- i'll probably paint it up or something. if it comes out nice maybe i will have some prints whipped up.
i did just have a bunch of prints made of a couple of my pieces. they cost me a small fortune!
