I never really had a feeling either way with this band. Yeah a few good songs, but nothing really that I would call GREAT. Well the video for "Jump" was pretty cool, sorta.

I'd definitely have to agree with you on the rap part. Its such a different genre of music now that I really don't see any similarities between the two. But I sure don't hope that gangsta rappers get into the hall of fame 25 years from now.

I'll take your advice on Patti Smith. I've had a growing interest in punk and proto-punk recently, and she seems like a good musician to listen to and learn about. Actually, I now remember seeing her on an early episode of Saturday Night Live playing "My Generation." She was pretty good!

I'll proslytize for Patti Smith any day. On the two disc edition of Horses they offer two versions of "My Generation" - disc one has a vintage recording from the 1970s, which is pretty cool. The second disc, which is a post-2000 live recording of Smith and a backing band of all-stars (including Flea, amongst others) playing the entire album Horses. They end with an encore of "My Generation." It's interesting to hear Flea attack John's bass solo - very energetic!
