The Doppler Estate, established by the current resident's grandfather, is likely to be found as an odd combination of old and new. The decor says 18th Century, but the numerous texts sitting about on space, space travel, and extraordinarily complicated mathematics scream ~sci-fi~. And that's not to mention some of the other guests.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Doppler also went about inviting friends and colleagues from around Space Port and beyond. Mind that they're all the most well-behaved sorts you'll ever meet, society folks of the highest caliber, mostly intellectuals. Mostly aliens.
Apart from his collaborators in various fields, one might also run into a small number of dog-and-cat type people: members of Doppler's family who are around for the holidays. Those of the gentler persuasion might find the company of his two nephews and niece, only around until bedtime, particularly enjoyable. (They will talk your ear off and like to play games, you know.)
There is a small band playing for everybody's entertainment. A great tree sits at one end of the dining hall, which has been cleaned and polished to a fine state. The long table has been pushed to one side, and it is laden with both heavier and lighter foods, plenty of desserts and holiday fare, and bountiful amounts of hot tea, cider, and drinking chocolate. Inquiring minds will be able to obtain wine and warm, spiced mead from one of the home's residents, temporary or otherwise. A large fire burns in a suitably large hearth in this room.
The hall itself is connected to Doppler's library, which has been tidied up to a lesser effect that the dining hall. Here, one will find a more quiet environment for conversation or... Other sorts of things. (By which we mean some light reading, of course!)
Being the home of an astronomer, there are many large windows and doors to the outside, curtains pulled back to allow a fantastic view of the night sky. There are also a few quiet balconies, again easily accessible for those that might want a moment away from the louder areas.
So there you have it! Dancing, good food, and good company! There will be a party game or two, there will certainly be prizes and gifts. Bubbling, socially-awkward man he may be, Doppler enjoys treating his friends and colleagues very well.
There's even guest rooms available for the tired and perhaps intoxicated, should they choose not to take the provided transformation home. (And yes, there will be breakfast in the morning.)
