How interesting it was! Cornelia had nearly spilled the beans quite a few times to Chase, and she couldn't figure out why. Usually she didn't have a problem with keeping secrets from people, seeing as she had so many things gathered inside her mind from years of studying people that it was never an issue, but it was always different when it came to Chase. Maybe that was just her brain's way of telling her that he was really nice and a good friend. She wasn't used to having people actually want to sit down with her and discuss things, and she certainly wasn't used to the way her stomach felt when she would think about Chase, think about his smile and how good he smelt and how warm he was every morning when she gave him a hug. But she wanted him to have a good birthday, so perhaps that was why she was so keen on telling him that there was a party planned, and that a lot of people were eager to bombard him with birthday wishes and bouts of random gifts that were thought up in a short period of time ( ... )

Cornelia had been on his mind all evening, and with every hug he gave he wished more and more that it was she he was hugging, but besides that, he'd kept an eye on her occasionally, watching her interact with everybody, hoping he wasn't being too apparent about his observation. Timmy had once asked him where his mind was while they were sitting eating some cake together and chatting about quidditch, and Chase had snapped his attention back to what they were talking about with a blushing face. Toots and then decided to tease him about being off in la la land, but Chase waved him off ( ... )

Was it bad to be slightly pleased with knowing that everyone else was gone from the Hufflepuff commons? It wasn't as though she'd hated every moment that there was a party taking place, of course, but getting to sit there with Chase and look at him, at a closer level than from just across the room, was making a happy warmth rush through her body. But it also meant that she was going to have to focus on what was going on, and that she had run out of time to herself to analyze what she even wanted to go on, even if it didn't make sense. It was, however, a risk worth falling into ( ... )

Pushing his glasses up his face, he studied Cornelia as he finished speaking. She really was quite pretty, at least, Chase thought so. Then again he'd spent time with her one on one, even only just once, in a setting where he could look at her properly without feeling like he was rushed or that people were watching them. He spent time with Lucy all the time, often working together for homework for hours, and he still didn't have her face memorized like he had Cornelia's ( ... )
