It was the day Stephen had been both looking forward to and dreading, ever since he and Mandy began planning it. Stephen had not heard from Kevin since early August, nor had he heard from Kevin's parents - but then again, he hadn't tried to contact the Entwhistles during the school term, fearing it would be intercepted, read, and they would all suffer for it. He didn't know what to expect. He hoped that Mr. and Mrs. Entwhistle would have some sort of news, anything at all, about Kevin's whereabouts and well-being. Logically, Stephen knew it was unlikely, at this point. The longer a person was missing, the less of a chance they would return alive. He knew that. But he still hoped Kevin would be an exception. He hoped that Kevin's parents would tell him that, after he and Kevin began hearing the rumours about what was going on with Muggleborns, Kevin left and went into hiding. He hoped that they would tell him that they'd wanted to contact him, but feared for Kevin's safety. All those months without contact would be worth it to find out that he was in hiding somewhere far away. Stephen could forgive that.

There were so many possibilities for how the day might go. The Entwhistles might not be there; it was shortly after Christmas, after all. Perhaps they were visiting other relatives. They might be there - but they might not want to see him at all. Or they might be there and want to see him. He was hoping for the latter.

The plan was that Stephen and Mandy would go to the Leaky Cauldron, maybe wander around a bit - to cover for their "shopping in Diagon Alley" alibi, should anyone ask - and venture out from there. Mandy had met him at his house and together, they traveled to the Leaky Cauldron. "So," Stephen began, glancing around warily at the customers in the pub, "what did you need to get, again?" He was only asking as part of their story and hoped Mandy would be able to tell. He sighed. He could only keep up the act for so long, and he was sure no one had seen them. "Fuck it, let's go," he muttered. "Maybe we can get coffee or something at a place nearby first. I feel all... weird."
