Summary: Every emotion he had during his time with Ilhoon was matched with a color.
pink.
It is the color Hyunsik feels when he first lays eyes on Ilhoon. The color that bursts in his stomach when the younger glances at him from across the dimly lit theater and smiles, subtly. He can almost taste it on the tip of his tongue as he takes slow steps towards the blond, trying to wrap his mind around a coherent greeting for his new partner. It is what he sees when Ilhoon bows to him and whispers a shy 'hello'. He hears it when Ilhoon laughs, unrestrained and wild, for the first time when he splutters over his own, quiet 'Hi. My name is Hyunsik'.
green.
Hyunsik feels this when he gathers the courage to ask Ilhoon on a date. His heart warms like a flower being kissed by the rays of the sun when Ilhoon blushes faintly, brushing a strand of hair behind his ear as he nods. His senses are invaded when he steps onto Ilhoon's front porch, reaching a hand out to ring the doorbell.
"You look.. Uh, good." Are his sheepish words when the door swings open and there stands Ilhoon, clad in the same clothes he'd wear in class, but somehow this is different because he feels this color swimming through his veins, making him more alert, more aware of how beautiful Ilhoon is.
He feels all of this go through him at once when Ilhoon's hand grabs his tentatively.
red.
It is the air that surrounds them during their first time. They breathe this color hotly along each others skin, fingers groping mindlessly wherever they can reach. It is what they feel when they are embraced so tightly under the sheets. Hyunsik sees it when Ilhoon arches under him, his eyes shut tightly, lips parted in a silent plea. It makes him close his own eyes, it clogs all senses but his sense of touch.
They feel it when they climax, grunts and groans fading to whimpers in the stuffed atmosphere.
orange.
It is their playful energy as they watch movies in the living room, tossing popcorn at each other's faces and cackling like the adult-children they really were. Ilhoon radiates this color as he runs around their small, yet comfortable apartment, demanding Hyunsik's attention though the older is purely focused on his essay due the next day at some ridiculous hour in the morning.
It is also the color he is surrounded in as he encourages Hyunsik to wake up in the morning, to "turn in the essay he was too busy doing to pay attention to his own boyfriend."
blue.
They are sitting in the hospital when this color engulfs Hyunsik, stealing his breath as he awaits news he feels won't be good.
When Ilhoon walks into the waiting room, looking rather dreary, eyes full of this color, Hyunsik bites his lip to hold back an agonized wail.
It is the color of his tears as they cascade down his face silently when they get home.
black.
Months later, it is the color suit he wears at a funeral. It is the feeling that rests on his shoulders heavily, the color of the invisible hands glide along his chest, stopping at his heart to press down harder than he'd ever thought possible. It is the sight of the casket he watches as it is slowly lowered into the ground. What he feels when Ilhoon's mother is in front of the large hole, talking about her beautiful baby, how he was such a loving person, and how he loved Hyunsik with every fiber of his being. Hyunsik bites his lip so hard that blood fills in his mouth, but it is not enough to numb the pain this color deals him.
white.
He sees this color in a dream one night. Ilhoon is clad in it, standing far away from Hyunsik. He smiles, eyes shining happily as Hyunsik's heart swells with in his chest.
yellow.
The color he feels when he breaks into a run towards Ilhoon.
gray.
He sees it when the angel in his dream shakes his head slowly, and he stops on the silent order.
black II.
It is the color he sees when his eyes jerk open. when he reaches out for the warm body next to him, and finds only cold bedding.
It is the void that swallows him whole on nights like this, when he wakes from pleasant dreams, and gets thrown into the rushing current that is reality.
black III.
"Hyunsik, I have terminal cancer."
