Birthday party

Okay, my birthday party/Leigh's early birthday party/Leigh's going away party is on February 9. That means I have to get my/our butt(s) in gear and plan for the thing, because it's going to be the most awesome party, ever.

Being something of a stranger to parties where more than 5 people show up, what do you look for in a party? Details, please.

Good, moderately loud music. Lots of places to sit. "Activity areas" (i.e. place to play video games, place to watch TV, place to make drinks, place to sit and talk, etc). Mood ambience (no one wants to go to an undecorated, ill-planned party at a messy apartment). Just a few ideas.
